Client: Schreiber Foods

Schreiber Foods, a global dairy company, set out to modernize a decades-old Oracle-based system that had become a bottleneck to growth. While the company was known for world-class operational execution, it was constrained by aging technology that couldn’t keep pace with its evolving needs. Over the years, multiple attempts had been made to modernize the system—each falling short. The company ultimately made a bold decision: to build a custom SaaS platform from scratch. That decision gave rise to The Hive—a cloud-native, AI-ready solution powered by AWS that is transforming how Schreiber runs production, manages inventory, and enables third-party subscribers.

Client challenge

Despite its operational strength, Schreiber Foods’ legacy Oracle platform had become a major obstacle. Deeply embedded PL/SQL logic and monolithic architecture made the system difficult to scale and expensive to maintain. The reliance on on-premises infrastructure created additional inefficiencies and risks. These issues were compounded by the growing importance of real-time visibility, quality control, and seamless third-party integration across the supply chain. Off-the-shelf SaaS solutions could not accommodate the company’s unique processes and differentiation, so the business opted for a complete transformation.

Our solution

We partnered with Schreiber Foods to reimagine and rebuild its core platform as a modular, serverless SaaS solution on AWS. Delivery was structured around multiple Agile workstreams that focused on modernizing the user experience, accelerating development with generative AI, and designing for scale from day one. Core elements included:

  • Serverless architecture: AWS Lambda and API Gateway enabled scalable, event-driven services without the burden of server management.
  • Containerized services: Amazon ECS with Fargate powered microservices to ensure portability, maintainability, and operational efficiency.
  • AI-supported code migration: Generative AI tools like Q for Developer and GitHub Copilot accelerated the rewrite of legacy PL/SQL logic into modern Python code.
  • Enterprise-grade cloud architecture: Amazon Aurora and RDS are being deployed for resilient purpose driven and highly efficient database; Amazon Cognito and Azure AD provided federated, secure authentication.
  • Embedded intelligence: Amazon Bedrock and CloudWatch have been leveraged to support intelligent assistance and real-time observability.
  • Modular SaaS model: The new platform, branded The Hive, is being built to support multi-tenancy, real-time dashboards, ERP integration, and extensibility to emerging tech such as robotics and AGVs.
